We are the Woodhaven BID, proudly serving the businesses, residents, and historical places that make Jamaica Avenue, from Dexter Court to 100th Street, the bustling, welcoming commercial heart of the Woodhaven community.
The Woodhaven Business Improvement District was established in 1993 by Woodhaven property owners, business investors, and community leaders to complement, expand, and actively encourage the full retail and commercial development of Woodhaven’s Jamaica Avenue into the new millennium and beyond.
Today, the BID works tirelessly to make Jamaica Avenue a destination where people love to shop, live, and do business. We sponsor exciting programs and memorable community events that bring neighbors together and celebrate the unique spirit of Woodhaven. We also partner with trusted outside vendors to deliver essential services, including regular sanitation and prompt graffiti and vandalism removal, keeping our streets clean, safe, and beautiful for everyone who visits, works, or calls this neighborhood home.

More flexibility for NYC storefronts 🔓
Yesterday, @nyccouncil passed Intro 910-A, repealing the visibility requirement for storefront security grilles required under Local Law 75 of 2009.
Under Local Law 75 passed by the previous Council in 2009, affected security grilles WERE scheduled to meet a requirement of at least 70% visibility by July 1, 2026 (that would have been today), in order for aesthetic and security updates.
With the passage of this bill however, these visibility requirements under LL75 no longer apply, and existing grilles can remain as is.
We appreciate the Council’s collaboration on this bill that supports NYC’s small business community, and provides entrepreneurs with flexibility when deciding which security grille works best for their business.
Please note that this new legislation passed by the City Council does not change the permit requirements for installing a new storefront security grille. DOB strongly recommends consulting with a registered design professional to determine permit requirements for any specific projects.
